We are a digital first business which means that we aim to use systems wherever possible to provide our services. Systems enable us to do our job faster and we pass on those efficiencies in the form of more affordable fees.

Almost all our services can be provided digitally which means we can service clients all over Australia. That means we can communicate via technology to gather information, all information is sent digitally and almost all documents can be signed electronically.

Fixed fees

Whilst we may occasionally charge by the hour, we believe in fixed upfront pricing to drive efficiency and ultimately to save you money. We are a friendly and approachable bunch and we don’t start the billing clock ticking when you call us to discuss simple matters.

Meet the Team.

It all began back in 2014 when Simona Hughes founded Financial Utilities. At the time, Simona was providing CFO consultancy services to a handful of clients and they all needed more so Simona established Financial Utilities to provide a complete finance function to small to medium businesses that couldn’t afford in-house employees.

By 2018, the business had grown significantly and Marcus Benson came on board to take the compliance reins (tax and accounting).

As the client base grew and the services became more extensive, in-house bookkeepers and accountants have joined the team. Samantha, our practice manager, ensures all client services are managed seamlessly.

  • A CFO, Chartered Accountant, Business Strategy, Growth and Cashflow specialist with over 25 years professional experience.

    Simona started her career at KPMG back in 2000 before relocated to London.

    During her 10 year career in London, Simona worked for large multinationals like GlaxoSmithKline, Westfield and Lloyds Banking Group where she advanced her way into senior business analyst, private equity fund management and banking cashflow treasury management roles.

    Simona relocated back to her home town of Perth in 2011 to start a family. By 2013, Simona was working as a consultant private equity fund manager and CFO.

    Simona has been the driving force behind Financial Utilities for over 10 years. She predominantly spends her time working as a consultant CFO for larger clients and providing ad-hoc consultancy to regular clients.

    When Simona is not working, she is busy looking after two (almost) teenagers, participating in trail running events and creative pursuits.

  • A CPA and registered Tax Agent with over 18 years of professional accounting and tax experience.

    Marcus forged his professional career in mid-tier accounting firms in Perth before relocating with his family of 4 to Dunsborough in 2018.

    Marcus is a business structuring expert and tax strategist that has a proven track record of saving clients thousands in tax each year.

    When Marcus isn’t working, he is busy with his two young daughters and enjoying the outdoors running or fishing.

  • Caris is our assistant accountant helping many clients not just on their books but also with better business processes and reporting.

    Caris has over 15 years hands-on finance experience including 9 years looking after major projects with the City of Busselton.

    When Caris isn’t working, she is busy running after two young sons, helping out with many community projects as well as helping her husband with his buiness.

  • Tiarna is the Chief Book Balancer and all-round financial superstar.

    Tiarna is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to small business compliance, payroll intricacies, systems, processes and proper management of all facets of business operations.

    Tiarna has worked as a Bookkeeper for over 15 years in a diverse range of businesses and industries and has extensive experience and proficiency with various systems to ensure your financial operations run seamlessly and efficiently.

    When Tiarna is not busy working, she enjoys unwinding on her rural property, surrounded by her 3 daughters, husband and a plethora of animals to tend to.

  • Sam is the glue that keeps Financial Utilties ticking as well as the main client service manager, practice manager and marketing superstar.

    Sam knows all our clients and is dedicated to ensuring everyone is looked after.

    Sam is super organised and meticulous as well as being approachable and friendly.

    When Sam isn’t working, she is busy on her rural property wih her family, hosting Airbnb guests and volunteering with many of the community organisations.
